St. Anthony Hospital's Midtown Celebration

Just a few shots from a commercial shoot we did today for St. Anthony Hospital. It was a celebration of the rebirth and renaissance of the Midtown area along with an unveiling of the sculpture by the new East entrance.

I think the very first shot was my favorite from 180 I shot that half hour. =)

Not a lot of time at the moment, so I have to just leave you with those photos for now! We're trying to wrap up lots of loose ends so we can take a few days off for a much needed break. Thanks for stopping by to keep up with the latest!

$1500 Prize Towards Wedding Photography

Hey, brides! I just wanted to mention that right now there are only 11 engagement stories up on Photographik's site, competing for $1500 to put towards your wedding photography!

Entries will only be taken through 12/1/08, with the winner being announced around 12/15/08. That's right around my birthday, so I'm feeling really good about this. I'd love to have one of our brides win this money, so if you could use $1500 towards your wedding photography, check it out! I'm really liking the odds right now with only 11 other stories up there so far.

Save $1500 on Wedding Photography :: A Contest!

It's a one-of-a-kind deal, the first ever by Photographik.org and it's pretty exciting! Photographik is offering $1500 to put towards any Photographik photographer's wedding services just for having a fun, creative or romantic story and for getting votes for your story!

Check it out here:

photographik.org, wedding photography directory

Hope you can take advantage of it and, of course, win! We'd love to have one of our brides win the grand prize. It's not a far fetch. Right now the top vote-getter is just 40 votes and I'm sure most of our brides know more than 40 people who would vote for their engagement story as being the best.

Let me know if you do submit your story and we'll vote for you! And if we can help by providing images from your engagement session, let us know... we'd be happy to!

Dana & Ryan :: Engaged!

Congratulations, Dana & Ryan! I know you've been engaged for at least 6 weeks now because it's been that long since we met about your wedding photography, but you guys rate a public blog congrats. =)

We had a really great time shooting Dana & Ryan's engagement session downtown and I knew it was going to be a great session from the minute I pulled up and saw them snuggling and holding hands before they even saw me! If I could hand-pick every couple we work with (and we try to! =) we would ask for romantic, affectionate couples like Ryan and Dana. It's easier for them to forget that they're there for a photo shoot and they just focus on each other, and on the great time they're having together and I think those are really the best moments to capture in photos.

Here are just a few of our favorites...

If you know Dana or Ryan, you can see the rest of their session here, but you'll need to know Dana's last name to access the gallery.

Edgar & Tiffany's Wedding

Last September we had the pleasure of photographing Edgar as he proposed to Tiffany downtown if you recall from our blog about it. We've been looking forward to their wedding ever since then and the wait is now officially over!

They opted to have us cover the rehearsal and dinner, so we were able to get some great shots of the family having a great time together over at Edgar's Aunt & Uncle's beautiful home. It was the perfect opportunity to break out our new 50mm 1.2 lens due to the challenging lighting outdoors at dusk.

I should probably explain that Edgar's Dad is also an Edgar and that's why "Deuce" is printed on the banner with Tiffany's name.

Edgar and his Dad jammed with the band all night while the crowd danced to the great tunes.

I love this long exposure of the rehearsal dinner dancing. It was actually totally dark by this time, but with a long exposure everything lights up really nicely. You can even see a star or two in the night sky.

And now for two of my absolute favorites from the day...

I had just a little bit of competition to get the shot as they cut the cake! I love these kinds of images showing the rock star status of Edgar & Tiffany. Seriously, there were SO many cameras out that evening.

Edgar showing some moves in a little dance-off.

Showing off the ring!

I just loved Tiffany's elegant dress! She had a lot of fun dancing despite it's size and weight.

After leaving Coles Garden, we did a mini-session at the Skirvin Hotel.

You can see about 600 more of Edgar & Tiffany's wedding photos by clicking here, and using Tiffany's maiden name as the gallery password.

Thanks, Edgar & Tiffany for the honor of serving you guys as your wedding photographer! I had a great time and it really was a pleasure to work with you!

Memory Card Corrupted Files

I've just discovered a solution to a nagging problem and I thought I'd post it in case it's of help to you photographers out there.

If we fill our memory cards completely before changing them out, I've found that it frequently causes the loss of a couple of the images towards the end of the card when you try to download them to the computer later. The files are unrecognizable and appear to be corrupted.

Here's what just worked for me... Download to your computer as many of the files as you can and then put the memory card back in the camera. Use the camera to delete a few of the photos that you just downloaded and then try again to download the rest of the images to your computer. I think you'll find that the images that once appeared to be corrupted will now read and download just fine!

I'm sure this wouldn't work for a physically damaged card, but if you filled your card right to the very top with images before changing it, this should help you download and be able to use them all.

I'm curious if this is a problem that a lot of other photographers deal with and if this works for you. Let us know! We'd love to hear if it's helpful.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun Labor Day! I'm actually in the office today working on taxes, so the holiday is aptly named this time around for us. =)
